Creativity

Right now, I’m loving this interview with Danny Gregory, author of The Creative License and Art Before Breakfast.  He talks about several ideas discussed in his book, the main theme being that anyone can and should be creative as a habit in their daily life.  Gregory laughs at the idea that there are artistic types and non-artistic types, and instead quotes Miles Davis saying “Do not fear mistakes.  There are none.”

What a freeing concept!  Not only that anyone can create, but that we should.

He also makes the point that we need to “feed the well”, ie feed your mind with good music, books, interesting people, etc.  I wonder if binge watching two seasons of Planet Earth on Netflix counts…

I can’t wait to read Art Before Breakfast, break out my easel and paints, and give my cat the portrait he deserves.  Let’s get inspired!

“My perfect date night: I pick you up. In my Kia Sorrento. You get in. There’s candles in the car. You go ‘Is that dangerous?” and I go, ‘Yes… but I like danger.’ We go to your favorite restaurant, and we have a fantastic meal. We come outside and we see my car’s on fire. You go, ‘Aziz, your car’s on fire. Aren’t you upset?’ I pull out a bag of marshmallows and I go, ‘No. I knew this was gonna happen.’ And then I kiss you. In front of my burning car.”
