Women in Planetary Science

Today, six months after the wedding, I finally, finally was able to start changing my name.  It’s been quite an adventure: months of chasing the right paperwork and working up the motivation to care about something as trivial as a name.

As I held the new I.D. card in my hand it didn’t feel quite as trivial as I’d expected somehow–I felt like a whole new person.

I wasn’t sure what I was feeling, so naturally, I googled “NAME CHANGE AFTER MARRIAGE” and scrolled past all the booooooooring posts about how to find your local DMV.  I landed on the most awesome blog ever, you guys.

It’s called Women in Planetary Science, and the tagline reads: “Women make up half the bodies in the solar system. Why not half the scientists?”.  The homepage is brimming with information: a series on 51+ female scientists, links to information about careers in different scientific fields of study, a tab about women’s history, it just goes on and on.  I read about mental health in planetary science and jumped headfirst into the 51+ women series.  I was sold on this blog even before they recommended to me a new podcast and called it “having a drink with a really smart friend”.

Or at least a one-way friendship where I admire and love everything you write, Women in Planetary Science.  May all blogs one day be as awesome as you.

Have a great weekend, readers! Cheers to the married life.signature
