One of the best pieces of unsolicited advice I got while pregnant was “The laundry will still be there, but they only stay babies a short time.”
The laundry is metaphoric; the laundry is every single task on the to-do list that is screaming urgency. For me, the laundry is actually laundry, loads of it–so many cloth diapers that we can successfully diaper a baby for a week. The laundry is packing lunches for work, the laundry is exercising, the laundry is planning our next big adventure. Some of these things are important, but more often than not, the laundry is still going to be there tomorrow.
Today, I had to force myself to do absolutely nothing. It’s incredibly hard for me to hold still, but the weather is fall perfection today and I am so thankful for a moment to enjoy it.
